The Redwood trees are the tallest living beings on Earth. They have stood for centuries, not because they outcompete everything around them, but because their strength has always been rooted in connection. Beneath their towering trunks is a hidden network of roots woven together. The strongest trees support the youngest. Nutrients and resources move where they're needed. What appears above ground as individual strength is, in reality, a living ecosystem built on connection.
Time and time again, these trees are shaped by fire. What might destroy other forests becomes part of their resilience. The heat opens dormant seed cones. New growth emerges.
Perhaps we aren't so different. We are shaped by our life experiences and relationships. We are strengthened by what we endure. The challenges we would never choose often become the source of our deepest wisdom, compassion, and understanding.
At our best, we do for one another what the redwoods have always done: we share what we've learned, support those finding their way, and create conditions where growth becomes possible.
This is why Redwood exists. Not because the world needs more events, content, noise, or people claiming to have all the answers. It exists because there is something profoundly human about gathering with curiosity, because some experiences don't simply entertain us, they invite us into a different relationship with ourselves, one another and the world.
A conversation can alter the course of a life. A piece of music can touch us in a way words cannot reach. A shared meal can turn strangers into friends. A question asked at the right moment can stay with us for the rest of our lives.
Curiosity is intimacy. It is how we move beyond assumption, honor another person's experience, and remain open to being changed ourselves.
So we create spaces where people can gather around ideas, science, food, music, beauty, wonder, and the shared experience of being human.
The people will change. The topics will evolve. The formats will expand.
But the intention remains the same: to create environments where connection runs deeper than transaction, where wisdom is shared rather than owned, and where people leave more alive, more curious, and more connected than when they arrived.
Our greatest experiences are not the ones we simply remember. They are the ones that change how we see.
